Winter Hideout Visit

I wanted to go out to the property to see how much snow there was out there this time of year. But because they don’t plow the roads out there in the winter, and because I don’t have a snowmobile, I had to snow shoe in. Which I estimate is about a 1.5 mile walk. So I pushed the Toyota in there as far as I could, and started walking.

I’ve never used snow shoes before, so it was quite an adventure, I was told in advance to expect to go face first into the snow a few times, which I only did once.

One of the first things I saw was some elk. It felt like I hadn’t seen one in years. Saw some big ole turkeys too.

Finally, back at my pickup, first time on snow shoes was a success

The only think I was a little disappointed with was that I didn’t get to look around the property more, but I was so exhausted from using those shoes that I needed to get back as soon as I could before I got too tired.

Oh ‘yota

That beloved Toyota pickup of mine has been acting up for sometime now, smokes when it goes up hills that are too steep, a blue hued smoke. Among a few other odd problems. Chuck and Brad at Evergreen Tire in Pullman (Britt’s dad’s shop) had looked at it a couple of times, but could never figure out what the hell was going on with it.

Well, the last camping trip, B.Maree and I tried to drive over the mountain while it was pouring down rain, but the mountain seemed to be too great a challenge for the Toyota, and we had to turn back, due to the smoke. I had made up my mind a few weeks ago, that when it started to interrupt my camping endevours, I’d have Chuck take it and fix it. Well, that trip over the mountain was the final straw.

Chuck and I swapped vehicles last weekend, as he attempted to fix the Toyota. And of course (at first) he couldn’t get it to smoke. After some drives around some steep areas in Pullman, he finally got it to smoke, and when he took the valve cover off, he found this floating around…

At some point, during some repair, this plastic hose clip (which goes on the outside of the engine not the inside), was dropped into the engine, and was causing a backup in oil, which would then eventually be burned off causing the blue smoke.

Chuck wasn’t 100% sure that this would fix my entire problem, So only time will tell, but for the time being, the ‘Yota is on the mend.
