Late Night Visitor

Last night, Britt and I woke up at 3am, to what sounded like, someone/thing trying to open our bedroom window. So like any Idahodian I grabbed my pistol. Both dogs were freaking out, barking up a storm (of course Maclin was).

When I pulled the curtain back, totally expecting to see some psychopath outside our window trying to kill us, I saw this;

Our house is half underground (we live in the basement section of a duplex) and this Racoon go stuck in the Window well and couldn’t get out! I was able to snap this one picture before s/he finally climbed out of there.

So much for going back to sleep after that! (although I had to get up anyway, it was time to go to work).

Just another working weekend for me

Winter Projects.

While getting woodΒ at Craig’s house I found an awesome junk pile. Old rusty gems.

I did find a couple of old rusty pieces I will hope to use out at the property. Including this tank:

I have some good ideas, and you’ll just have to stay tuned to see what I use it for.

I also found some Auger looking things, that I hope to use as some type of entrance artwork.

Camping 6/1-6/3

First of all, It was my birthday last Thursday, I want to thank everybody for the warm words and gifts. Thanks to all. and Thanks, most importantly, to my B.Maree for making my day so wonderful.

OH! and thanks to Britts parents for making me a wonderful birthday dinner. Prime Rib, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, salad, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. so so good. Chuck & Terry really knows how to cook a prime rib.

B.Maree and I took our first weekend trip up to the hideout, we had a pretty good time. I took stuff up to the hideout Friday morning, while Britt was working. When I got done mowing the hideout grass, I headed back to town. When I got back to town my pickup started running like absolute crap. Missing, no power, the works. Well, thankfully Britt’s dad helped me out and we got it fixed before Britt and I headed out to camp.

I got to enjoy my new tent courtesy of B.Maree as a birthday gift. πŸ™‚

It was nice to go up to the hideout and not have a ton of work to do. We took our testie toss game up there, and I got some horseshoes to replace my lost set. We had a good time, and even garnered enough courage to let both of our beloved dogs off the leashes for a good portion of the trip. They both did pretty good for the most part, we figured Maclin would have some issues, and sure enough, he did. During the 12 hours of rain, Britt and I decided to take a drive up the hill, well, after talking to some friends we met on the road, my window down. Out goes Maclin, and down the road he ran. As many of you can imagine, I was PISSED. After about a mile of chasing the little bastard, I caught him; He was in some serious trouble. After we returned to camp, it stopped raining and was actually a pretty nice day.

Dusty and Kim (Keystone camp Founders and Cousins) joined us for a bit. Dusty is really one of the funniest people I know. It was great to see them, and to know where their new camp is going to be located. I got a lot, and I mean a lot of my ideas from Dusty’s camp. Those two spend, what seems like, almost every weekend up there.

After a long day, Britt, Shaylah, Tyson, and I all just chilled around the fire, and enjoyed some drinks. Shaylah broke out the Smore stuff at one point, and my god she is experimental (in a good way). She is always buying different types of chocolate bars to try on Smores. This time the big winner (for me) was Twix. OMG. a must try.

Britt even shot my pistols at one point. πŸ™‚ I was so proud of her. She enjoyed the .22 a little more than the .40. Though, I can’t blame her. She also helped my cut some firewood. which we just cut up some downed trees. She really is my soul mate. I love her so much.

Hopefully we will try to get up there next month for a weekend or so. I’m excited to go again already.

The Hideout Update.

First off, I wanna congratulate my buddy Austin in graduating from Electrician school. Graduation party was fun Saturday night. Sunday Morning wasn’t so fun, but Terry greeted me with a cup of coffee. At least I didn’t wake up on Britt’s parents bathroom floor. Congrats Bud

Anyhow, I had taken some rocks up to the Hideout earlier in the week and Shaylah was nice enough to help me created a better firepit. She did a good job.

So it turned out pretty good.

after Shaylah and I got this pit all together and my camping stuff unloaded, we called it a day.

Then Dad helped me out up there for quite a bit. we got some rock (from the creek) and laid it around the fire pit.

The high priority of the day was to build a small brick BBQ out of the leftover brick from last years BBQ Pit project. So we started it. And as we learned last year, and learned again this year, we are not a family of masons….(excuse the blurry picture)

And then we added some creek rock to our normal kitchen area. (you can see the finished brick BBQ off to the left) [again excuse the blurry pix]

After we got that finished dad and I cut up some fallen trees and got some wood stock piled. then we cooked some camp improvised dinner.

Then Cooked it on our improvised stove (since our BBQ was still drying)

After dinner I cut up one more fallen tree, and then came the rain. I slept in the tent for quite a while, but then at 3 am the Thunder and Lightning came. and it rained some more. so after a quick breakfast I finished filling the horseshoe pits and got the heck out of there. I did get one good picture of the camp in whole.

It’s still a work in progress, but its starting to come together.

The two big things that need to happen are A) we need to figure out a way to get across the creek, and B) build a small foot bridge to connect main part of the camp to the horseshoe pits on the left…over the small ditch.

I am kinda anxious to put up a trail came and see if I can catch some wolves going through our camp while we are not there. There have been multiple sightings down the road at Jack’s.

until next time
